Physical Intervention for Carers

Physical Intervention for Carers

Every care setting is different. This is why any physical intervention training we deliver considers the unique, often complex needs of your care users and carers. Our physical intervention training is designed to reduce restrictive practice by providing carers with a range of techniques and strategies so physical intervention is only applied when absolutely necessary.  Whether your organisation provides nursing, respite and residential care, adult or child care, mental health care or supported housing, our physical intervention training delivers a compassionate approach to managing conflict.

Our Approach to Physical Intervention

The Law, Theory and Best Practice

Our physical intervention training introduces staff to the law, theory and care industry best practice in relation to the 'use of reasonable force'.  This provides staff with the underpinning they will need to inform their decision making when presented with challenging behaviour.

Managing Challenging Behaviour

Carers often need to manage challenging behaviour. Defusing, de-escalating and calming aggressive situations is the first step in maintaining a safe care environment. By examining self-awareness and how actions impact on conflict, your carers will explore effective communication and behaviour strategies, including for those who work as lone carers.

Breakaway

Defusing and de-escalating techniques are at times, insufficient to resolve an incident.  This may potentially put your caring team, support staff and service users into situation were they may be physically assaulted.   Easy to recall recall breakaway techniques are taught to reduce identified risk and facilitate an escape route to minimise confrontation and potential injury.

Physical Intervention

Intervening physically may become necessary when all previous efforts to reduce risk have failed. Our physical intervention package aims to reduce restrictive practice where your carers will be taught how and when it is ‘reasonable’ to employ such strategies. All techniques taught are accredited by the National Federation for Personal Safety Ltd. and are medically and legally audited annually.
